Winter Feeding - Tue Feb 2

The cattle were fed hay by Guy, Matt Mueller, Ginny, Don and Greg. 16 bales were put out in Jennie's pastures and 2 more in the East pasture. One bale per 7 cows. We found a total of about 105 cows (not including any calves), so there were about 20 cows not accounted for. We also drove through Cerro Hueco but found no cattle.

In Cecil's pasture we found 1 bull at the mill and the uneaten bales put out last Wednesday. We assumed the other 7 bulls were in the draw to the southwest where there is grass and a creek that catches the melting snow. We didn't look for them because it was getting too muddy.

Because there was plenty of grass showing there was not a need to put feed out except for the fact that there is supposed to be more snow coming Wed and Thu. So the hay was put out as a precaution.

At Jennie's mill the solar powered bubbler (that keeps the water from freezing) didn't seem to be working. We disconnected the tube from the motor and blew through it finding it clear. It's possible that there was not enough sunshine yet to get it pumping enough air.

Winter Feeding - Wed Jan 27

After a week of snow the cattle were feed hay by Guy, Ginny, Cody, Kip Hunsaker and John Doyle (maybe others?). About 23 bales were put out in 3 pastures: Jennie's, East and Cerro Hueco and to the Bulls in the Cecil pasture.

Clearing Fences

On Dec 19 the family of Don and Laurie met Guy at the ranch and cleared the weeds off of the north and west fences of the horse pasture. We also cleared about 100 yards to the east and west of the gate at the north fence of Cecil's pasture. A lot was accomplished with so many people. It was a great family event and Andrew's last trip to the ranch before his mission. Guy and Andrew put out some Molasses blocks at Jennie's mill.
